USDA-Food for Education, USPB-International Food Assistance Initiative Program Support for Cameroon
Released on: 04/16/2013
The USDA Food for Education (FFE) program purchased a cumulative 480 metric tons (MT) of U.S. dehydrated fortified-potato granules in December 2012 and February 2013 for the Republic of Cameroon in Africa. These two purchases mark the first time micronutrient-fortified granules have been included as part of the FFE program, and originated in part because of ongoing training for Private Voluntary Organizations (PVOs) through the United States Potato Board (USPB) International Food Assistance Initiative (IFAI). The total 480 MT (68,908 cwt fresh weight equivalent) of US dehydrated potatoes was purchased for use by the PVO, Counterpart International (CPI) in Cameroon, and will be served as part of the breakfast meal for 74,000 children at participating schools. Some of the product will also be given to girls attending school as take home rations.

US Potato Exports Projected to Benefit from World Supply Situation
Released on: 10/02/2012
For the recently completed marketing year, the volume of US potato and potato product exports grew 10 percent to the fresh weight equivalent of 65,271,616 hundredweight. This is equal to 16 percent of total US potato sales for the year. For the past 10 years, the volume of exports has risen 58 percent, or an average of 6 percent per year. Based purely on this trend, exports for fiscal year 2012-2013 will be over 69 million hundredweight. However, there are many reasons to believe exports will exceed the 10 percent growth and actually be closer to 15 percent for a total of 75 million hundredweight, or 18 percent of total sales volume.

US Potato Exports Top $1.5 billion
Released on: 09/06/2012
The United States Potato Board (USPB) International Marketing program is proud to announce US exports of all potatoes and potato products for FY12 (July 2011-June 2012) were 1,506,557 metric tons (MT) valued at $1,583,563,167. This was a 10 percent increase in volume and a 17 percent increase in value over the previous marketing year and 43 percent increase from five years ago. The export volume is 65,271,616 cwt on a fresh weight equivalent (FWE) basis. This growth was led by a 17 percent increase in exports of frozen potato products and an 8 percent increase in dehy exports, despite tight supplies of both products in the US. The only reductions in exports were a decline of 1 percent in potato chips and a 21 percent decrease in seed exports; however, the figures for seed are not reliable.
